Data Business Analyst (Data Governance)

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada; hybrid

What you will do

• Gather complex business requirements and translate them into data requirements and technical specifications for engineering teams.
• Apply conceptual and logical data modelling to design structures supporting current and future business objectives.
• Create, standardize, and manage the enterprise data glossary, metadata, data definitions, and lineage.
• Integrate data across business lines and disparate systems while contributing to a unified enterprise data model.
• Identify gaps in data workflows and stewardship processes and recommend scalable improvements.
• Support data quality, governance, and structure initiatives for advanced analytics and AI readiness.

Requirements

• 2–5 years of experience as a Data Governance Analyst, Metadata Manager, Data Custodian, or in a similar enterprise data role.
• Ability to translate complex business concepts into detailed data requirements, technical specifications, and conceptual and logical data models.
• Strong SQL skills for querying and analysis, plus experience documenting source-to-target data mappings using SQL and NoSQL data structures.
• Knowledge of data governance, data quality, metadata management, and stewardship practices.
• Knowledge of modern cloud data platforms, data warehousing, and ETL/ELT workflows.
• Experience collaborating across matrixed organizations, regions, business lines, and leadership levels.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related analytical field.

Nice to have

• Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) or a similar certification.
