TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer, Thermal and Fluid Systems (Marine Electrification): Developing and validating thermal, fluid, propulsion, and drivetrain systems for electric vessels with an accent on cooling loops, fluid management, structural and thermal analysis, and hull-to-machinery integration. Focus on releasing production designs, executing bench and on-water testing, supporting USCG and ABS compliance, and integrating electric powertrains into commercial and defense vessels.

Location: Torrance, California, United States; full-time on-site at the Los Angeles headquarters

Base salary: $125,000–$150,000 annually, plus equity grants and semi-annual impact-based bonuses.

Company

hirify.global is electrifying the marine industry by developing electric powertrains, software, and vessel platforms for consumer, commercial, tug, ferry, and defense applications.

What you will do

  • Own thermal and fluid systems across vessels, including cooling loops, pumps, plumbing, bilge, and ventilation.
  • Run structural and thermal analyses, including FEA and hand calculations, to size and validate components.
  • Collaborate with naval architects on hull-to-machinery integration, packaging, weight and LCG, foundation loads, and appendage interfaces.
  • Release drawings, GD&T, BOMs, and specifications while driving DFM/DFA with manufacturing and supply chain partners.
  • Build and execute bench, dock, and on-water test plans, turning test data into design improvements.
  • Partner with electrical and controls engineers on electric powertrain integration, marine propulsion hardware, supplier evaluation, and USCG/ABS compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, marine, ocean, aerospace engineering, naval architecture, or a related discipline.
  • At least 3 years of experience designing and releasing production mechanical systems, preferably thermal, fluid, or structural systems for vessels or vehicles.
  • Experience owning designs through build, testing, and iteration.
  • Hands-on proficiency with structural and thermal analysis, 3D CAD such as SolidWorks, NX, or CATIA, GD&T, and PDM/PLM workflows.
  • Ability to work in the shop and on the water, including occasional sea trials, travel up to 15%, and lifting, pushing, or pulling 50 pounds.
  • Must be a U.S. person under ITAR requirements, including a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual.

Nice to have

  • Experience with marine cooling, bilge, ventilation, commercial vessel systems, or electric and hybrid marine propulsion.
  • Familiarity with USCG and ABS rules.
  • Professional Engineer license in mechanical engineering, thermal and fluid systems, naval architecture, or marine engineering.
  • Experience taking a vessel from a blank sheet to on-water validation.

Culture & Benefits

  • Values centered on ownership, empathy, humility, pragmatism, inclusion, urgency, and careful execution.
  • 99% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Fourteen weeks of fully paid parental leave, competitive paid time off, life and disability insurance, and traditional and Roth 401(k) access.
  • $500 annual water fund, $500 professional development reimbursement, monthly AI stipend, and annual PPE and ergonomic equipment reimbursement.
  • Captain training, access to Arc boats, daily lunches and snacks onsite, and relocation assistance depending on eligibility.

Hiring process

  • Interview discussions include alignment with Arc’s values and the role’s technical requirements.
