Hardware Engineer - Test Development (AI)

Location: Foster City, California, United States; onsite in the office 5 days per week

Base salary: $151,000–$182,000 per year, excluding RSUs, stock appreciation rights, and any sign-on bonus.

Zoox is developing a purpose-built, fully autonomous robotaxi and validates the electronic control units used in its vehicles.

What you will do

• Build, debug, and maintain ECU test setups, including fixtures, harnesses, fault injection racks, power supplies, electronic loads, data acquisition systems, and thermal chambers.
• Run electrical, environmental, reliability, EMC, and cold-weather tests in Foster City and local test laboratories.
• Develop Python automation and testing tools, using AI tools to review specifications, synthesize results, and accelerate test development.
• Support root-cause analysis of test failures with validation, design, firmware, and supplier quality engineers.
• Translate validation plans into working test setups and procedures, and track issues through closure in Jira.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience in hardware testing, hardware validation, or electrical engineering.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, DMMs, and data acquisition systems.
• Experience building or modifying harnesses, fixtures, or instrumentation and reading schematics to debug board-level issues.
• Working proficiency in Python for test automation or data analysis, plus experience with fault injection, hardware-in-the-loop, or automated test equipment.
• Experience with automotive validation standards such as ISO 16750, CISPR 25, or ISO 11452, and with Jira, Polarion, or another ALM tool.
