Staff Forward Deployed Engineer (AI)

Location: Fully remote, but candidates must reside in the United States. Work within Eastern Time, with expected hours from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern. Occasional travel for training and project meetings is expected at less than 5% per year.

Salary: $145,000–$215,000 annually

What you will do

• Identify high-value operational and mission problems with program, growth, executive, security, product, design, and engineering stakeholders.
• Conduct discovery sessions, interviews, and workflow analysis, then develop user-centered concepts, prototypes, and validation approaches.
• Design and implement architectures, integrations, APIs, data solutions, cloud services, AI applications, prototypes, and MVPs.
• Build secure systems using CI/CD, identity controls, observability, monitoring, deployment automation, Agile, DevSecOps, DataOps, and AnalyticOps practices.
• Turn validated work into reusable components, reference architectures, adoption guidance, and transition plans.
• Enable adoption through workshops, technical reviews, coaching, mentoring, and engineering standards across teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
• 7+ years of hands-on software, data, platform, cloud, or AI engineering experience.
• Strong depth in one or more areas including full-stack engineering, data engineering, cloud architecture, AI/ML engineering, platform engineering, integration architecture, or DevSecOps.
• Experience integrating systems, APIs, data sources, cloud services, and modern AI technologies, including LLM and agentic approaches.
• Experience building secure solutions that handle PHI, PII, or other sensitive data, including authorization, privacy, auditability, governance, and responsible AI practices.
• Must reside in the United States and be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust.

Nice to have

• Federal, DoD, health IT, Medicare, Medicaid, healthcare, or Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services experience.
• Experience with Databricks, Palantir, MCP servers, agents, retrieval-based solutions, or governed AI workflows.
• Prior forward-deployed engineering, technical consulting, solution architecture, or senior engineering experience.
• Experience mentoring engineers, reviewing architectures, and improving engineering quality across multiple teams.
• Relevant certifications or advanced training in cloud, data platforms, coding, or AI/ML architecture.
