Sr. Manager, Software Engineering-Android & Device Platforms

Location: Remote – United States; travel required 2–4 times per year

Base salary: $154,200–$212,200 per year

What you will do

• Own engineering outcomes across field operations tooling, exam-room technology, waiting-room displays, and back-office systems running on Android and BrightSign devices.
• Manage senior Engineering Leads and individual contributors, including hiring, performance management, coaching, and career development.
• Remain hands-on through code reviews, implementation work, technical direction, architecture discussions, and device-level troubleshooting.
• Coordinate priorities and dependencies across three or more concurrent product areas with different technologies and team maturity.
• Champion AI-assisted and agentic engineering practices, including AI-powered capabilities such as automated device diagnostics.
• Partner with Product, Design, Architecture, and engineering leadership on delivery, staffing, resourcing, and technical governance.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years leading engineers or engineering teams.
• Recent hands-on technical experience with production code, pull-request reviews, architecture, implementation, or software troubleshooting; a coding assessment is part of the interview process.
• Current native Android development experience with Kotlin, Java, modern Android practices, and device-platform technologies such as AOSP, customized ROMs, rooted or kiosk-mode devices, APK distribution, or OS upgrades.
• Experience with JavaScript or TypeScript, React, connected or remotely deployed device fleets, backend services, cloud APIs, and operational practices such as staged releases, monitoring, troubleshooting, updates, and rollbacks.
• Experience managing blended teams of full-time employees and contractors across multiple products, workstreams, or technical domains.
• Experience using and promoting AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude.

Nice to have

• Experience with BrightSign, SignageOS, Broadsign, AWS IoT Core, MQTT, Device Shadow, BLE, GATT, or Jetpack Compose.
• Experience with AI-powered diagnostics, self-healing device operations, agent-orchestration frameworks, Kotlin Multiplatform, or DORA metrics.
• Experience with architecture review processes, vulnerability management, application security, regulated industries, or organizational change.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
