Specialist Solutions Architect (Data Engineering)

Location: Office-based hybrid role in Amsterdam, Netherlands; up to 30% travel for customer visits, events, and training.

What you will do

• Lead end-to-end technical designs, proofs of concept, workload sizing, and technical engagements for strategic customers.
• Design, build, and optimize scalable batch and streaming pipelines, operational data layers, and performance load-testing solutions on Databricks.
• Build and operationalize user-facing data applications with Databricks Apps, data pipelines, and AI models.
• Use AI coding assistants, LLMs, and agentic workflows to prototype, debug, and deliver architectural assets.
• Mentor peers, create reusable architecture assets, and deliver technical workshops and community presentations.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in data or software engineering, including distributed processing with Apache Spark, Delta Lake, and SDP.
• Hands-on experience with real-time streaming technologies such as Spark Streaming, Kafka, and CDC.
• Strong production programming skills in Python, SQL, and Scala or Java, plus data modeling and system design fundamentals.
• 5+ years of pre-sales or post-sales technical consulting experience with customer engagements and multi-stakeholder discussions.
• Experience with operational or transactional data layers, Postgres/OLTP, low-latency serving, reverse ETL, and HTAP architectures.
• Ability to work in the Amsterdam office on a hybrid schedule and travel up to 30% when required.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP and Hadoop migration or data lake modernization.
• Experience building specialized data applications such as risk modeling, fraud detection, or customer lifetime value solutions.
• Technical community engagement, public speaking, open-source contributions, peer mentoring, or interviewing experience.
