Applications Integration Engineer (AI)

Location: Oak Ridge, Tennessee, United States. The role is physically connected to reactor build and operations work in office, prototyping, manufacturing, and industrial environments. Some travel between hirify.global sites and partner facilities may be required.

What you will do

• Troubleshoot integration failures, application defects, data-flow issues, and reliability problems across connected systems.
• Build AI-enabled applications and workflows for work-instruction support, lessons-learned capture, RFI support, configuration monitoring, engineering-change analysis, and operational dashboards.
• Develop RAG pipelines, LLM application logic, structured outputs, testing, evaluation, error handling, source traceability, observability, and human-in-the-loop controls.
• Integrate solutions with approved APIs, MCP servers, model gateways, MES, PLM, ERP, issue-tracking systems, schedules, and other enterprise capabilities.
• Prototype solutions with field users, incorporate operational feedback, and support deployment and maintenance with Enterprise AI, Infosec, and IT teams.
• Help Build Engineers and Operations Engineers create lightweight tools and improve AI fluency across Operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Engineering, or another technical discipline, or equivalent education and experience.
• Typically 2+ years of experience in software, data, automation, AI/ML, or technically sophisticated engineering; exceptional new graduates with substantial project portfolios may be considered.
• Strong Python proficiency and working knowledge of APIs, JSON, SQL, Git, testing, and modern software development.
• Hands-on experience building and deploying LLM applications, RAG systems, agents, tool-use workflows, or AI-enabled automation.
• Experience integrating applications with APIs, databases, or other software systems and troubleshooting application, data, or integration issues.
• Experience in industrial operations, manufacturing, aerospace, energy, construction, robotics, hardware integration, or other physical operations is strongly preferred.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with LLM orchestration or retrieval frameworks, vector databases, structured-output tools, AI evaluation or tracing tools, and cloud or containerized deployment.
• Familiarity with MCP client/server concepts and cloud services such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience with MES, PLM, ERP, issue-tracking systems, Git repositories, CAD/BOM data, or comparable engineering data sources.
