ESS Finance Controller (Finance)

Location: Nottingham, England; hybrid working with 40% office-based attendance.

What you will do

• Lead controllership oversight for the ESS balance sheet, including reconciliations, analysis, governance, and remediation of accounting risks.
• Own ICFR and SOX readiness activities, including control design, documentation, testing, evidence, reporting, and remediation.
• Act as secretary for the ESS Capital Committee and coordinate agendas, financial analysis, approvals, decision records, and follow-up actions.
• Provide financial challenge and advice on capital allocation, investment decisions, prioritization, and financial implications.
• Lead, coach, and develop a globally distributed team of three finance resources across onshore and offshore locations.
• Drive continuous improvement across close, reporting, controls, and finance processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
• Extensive finance and accounting experience with significant controllership experience in complex, global, or technology-driven environments.
• Strong experience in balance sheet management, financial controls, close processes, accounting governance, ICFR, SOX, audit readiness, and remediation.
• Experience supporting capital governance, investment decisions, and senior finance or executive governance forums.
• Proven ability to lead globally distributed teams, drive change, and deliver process improvement and transformation.
• Strong analytical, communication, stakeholder management, and senior-level influencing skills.

Nice to have

• CPA, ACA, ACCA, or an equivalent professional qualification.
