Director, Legal - Energy (US)

Location: Houston, New York, San Francisco, or Seattle, United States

Base salary: $210,000–$340,000 USD per year, plus potential bonus, equity, commission, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead negotiations for power procurement, utility supply, interconnection, transmission services, and energy supply for US data centre campuses.
• Draft and negotiate PPAs, corporate and sleeved PPAs, renewable-energy arrangements, energy supply agreements, and environmental attribute structures.
• Negotiate agreements for on-site generation, energy storage, microgrids, critical power equipment, development, installation, and O&M.
• Support interconnection, energization, capacity reservation, network upgrade, milestone, security, and delay-risk arrangements.
• Advise on pricing, volume commitments, curtailment, imbalance, change in law, force majeure, credit support, termination, insurance, guarantees, and bonding.
• Partner with real estate, construction, procurement, finance, operations, regulatory, technical, and external legal teams while managing US outside counsel.

Requirements

• 7+ years of legal experience in energy, power, infrastructure, or major projects.
• Strong experience negotiating utility, interconnection, energy supply, PPA, generation, equipment supply, and O&M agreements.
• Experience with large-scale, mission-critical, industrial, infrastructure, or energy-intensive projects across multiple US jurisdictions.
• Ability to lead complex negotiations, manage multiple high-value contracts, and explain legal and commercial risks to non-lawyers and senior stakeholders.
• Experience working with real estate, construction, project finance, insurance, regulatory, and technical counterparts.
• Attorney admitted in at least one US state or the District of Columbia and in good standing.

Nice to have

• Experience at a hyperscaler, colocation provider, data centre developer, energy developer, utility, major contractor, or infrastructure investor.
• Experience with corporate, sleeved, or utility-scale PPAs and renewable-energy procurement.
• Experience with interconnection, transmission, distribution, on-site generation, energy storage, microgrids, or critical-power equipment.
• Project finance, bankability, energy regulatory, permitting, or environmental attribute experience.
