Senior Engineering Reinsurance Underwriter

Location: Munich, Germany; hybrid work

Salary: €71,000–€118,000 for the Underwriter position or €99,000–€165,000 for the Senior Underwriter position, annually, plus performance-based variable compensation.

What you will do

• Underwrite Engineering treaty and facultative reinsurance business focused on Germany, Austria, and the Nordic markets.
• Perform technical and actuarial risk assessments, review wordings, negotiate with clients, and provide special acceptances.
• Conduct risk surveys, portfolio reviews, account servicing, and claims support.
• Develop relationships with insurers and brokers and source business in construction, infrastructure, parametric, and renewable energy covers.
• Design innovative reinsurance solutions for emerging technological risks and support strategic initiatives.
• Represent Engineering topics through client training, workshops, market events, thought leadership, and collaboration across business units.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience in the insurance or reinsurance industry, preferably in Engineering Lines underwriting.
• Strong analytical skills and proficiency with common IT applications used in underwriting and risk assessment.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English and German is required.
• University degree in a scientific, commercial, engineering, or Computer Science field.
• Client orientation, sound decision-making under pressure, and the ability to work in ambiguous or fast-moving situations.
• Willingness to travel moderately for client meetings, market events, and team engagements.

Nice to have

• Experience in facultative reinsurance, specialty lines, client markets, or Nordic and Austrian markets.
• Interest in construction, infrastructure, parametric covers, and renewable energy.
• Knowledge of languages beyond English and German.
• Experience contributing to technical research, innovation, or cross-business initiatives.
