Backend Engineer (Java) - KYC Tech

Location: Remote-first, with role locations listed as Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan; work-from-home arrangements may vary depending on the role and team.

What you will do

• Translate business requirements into reliable services with meaningful automated tests.
• Build and maintain backend components for a large-scale KYC and customer onboarding platform.
• Perform performance tuning and troubleshoot production incidents.
• Write high-quality technical documentation and maintain engineering standards.
• Collaborate with engineering teams and mentor junior developers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least 4 years of experience building high-throughput distributed applications.
• Strong knowledge of core Java, the Spring Framework, MySQL, distributed system design, and messaging middleware.
• Familiarity with at least one NoSQL database.
• Bilingual English and Mandarin required for coordination with overseas partners and stakeholders.
• Ability to collaborate with a remote team across different time zones and perform effectively under pressure.

Nice to have

• Experience tuning JVM, SQL, or RPC performance.
• Experience in KYC or compliance.
