Backend Engineer (Scala)

Location: Remote within Europe

What you will do

• Design, develop, and evolve scalable backend systems for real-time alerting.
• Own features end-to-end, from system design through deployment and production operation.
• Build streaming-based detection capable of processing millions of events per second with millisecond latency.
• Solve complex distributed-systems challenges involving pattern evaluation, dynamic enrichment, and fault-tolerant delivery.
• Collaborate with engineers and product managers to improve the observability product and user outcomes.
• Drive technical excellence, reliability, monitoring, and proactive incident management.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software development experience.
• 3+ years of JVM development experience with Java, Kotlin, or Scala.
• 3+ years of experience developing and operating distributed systems in production.
• Hands-on experience with observability platforms and data-streaming technologies such as Apache Kafka, Kafka Streams, Spark Streaming, or Apache Flink.
• Strong knowledge of distributed computing, data modeling, consistency, partitioning, resilience, and highly available system design.
• B.Sc. in Computer Science or an equivalent field.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with gRPC and Protobuf.
• Experience optimizing and tuning RocksDB.
• Production experience in a SaaS environment, including metrics, logging, and troubleshooting.
• Scala and ZIO experience.
