Biomechanics Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Via Melen 83, 16152 Genoa, Italy; full-time, permanent, onsite role.

What you will do

• Design, prepare, and execute human motion data acquisition sessions using wearable sensors, motion capture, force and pressure platforms, EMG, and smart shoes.
• Validate sensing systems against laboratory reference measurements and define quantitative benchmarking and quality metrics.
• Synchronize, clean, calibrate, segment, annotate, and document multimodal kinematic, dynamic, pressure, and neurophysiological datasets.
• Develop and maintain software pipelines for human sensing, teleoperation, synchronization, monitoring, logging, and dataset generation.
• Operate teleoperation systems during data collection, validation campaigns, and robot testing.
• Collaborate with AI engineers, roboticists, clinicians, and hardware teams to build biomechanical models and validation protocols.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related technical field.
• Practical experience with human motion acquisition, biomechanics, robotics experiments, sensor-based data collection, or complex laboratory setups.
• Strong knowledge of kinematics, dynamics, signal processing, human movement analysis, and experimental validation.
• Strong Python skills and practical C++ software development experience for robotics, sensor integration, human motion analysis, or data-processing pipelines.
• Experience with multimodal time-series data from IMUs, motion capture, force plates, pressure platforms, EMG, or wearable devices.
• Knowledge of robotic software architectures, teleoperation, human body models, biomechanical simulation, digital twins, or musculoskeletal modelling, together with strong documentation and reproducibility practices.

Nice to have

• Experience in clinical, rehabilitation, sports science, ergonomics, assistive robotics, or data-driven robotics.
• Familiarity with robotic simulation, sensor fusion, pose estimation, movement segmentation, motor phase recognition, or force estimation.
• Knowledge of HL7/FHIR or other data interoperability and healthcare data standards.
• Experience preparing experimental protocols, validation reports, technical documentation, or scientific publications.
• Familiarity with teleoperation systems, human-in-the-loop control, or digital human modelling.
