TL;DR
Staff AI Engineer (API & Integrations): Building and owning Factorial's public API and integrations framework end-to-end, from system design through production monitoring, with an accent on developer experience, cross-product consistency, and customer-centric product development. Focus on designing reusable frameworks for legacy and monolithic systems, defining AI Skills and evaluation frameworks, and building RAG and agentic workflows.
Location: Madrid, Spain; office-first hybrid schedule with on-site work several days a week

What you will do
- Own the public API and integrations framework from problem definition and system design through shipping, monitoring, and production iteration.
- Collaborate with Product and Design to shape API and integration experiences around real user needs.
- Design consistent integration experiences across ATS, payroll, ERP, and other product verticals.
- Work directly with customers through calls, reviews, and feedback sessions to understand workflows and constraints.
- Mentor peers, document learnings, and contribute to engineering best practices.
- Help define AI Skills, evaluation frameworks, RAG, and agentic workflows for integrations.
Requirements
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and production development experience in any language or stack.
- Demonstrated development maturity, including well-tested, production-grade code and end-to-end system ownership.
- Experience with APIs, cloud platforms, and system design.
- Experience working with legacy or monolithic systems and evolving reusable internal frameworks.
- Product-first thinking, adaptability, and a track record of delivering measurable impact.
- Availability to work from Madrid with regular office attendance.
Nice to have
- Experience with LLMs, skill-based agents, MCP, or other AI protocols.
- Experience with Ruby on Rails and React.
