Fire & Security Estimating Coordinator

Location: South Africa, Johannesburg; 100% remote. Working hours follow UK business hours and UK public holidays.

Salary: 18,000–20,000 ZAR per month

What you will do

• Design compliant fire alarm system layouts and equipment specifications from architectural drawings and site survey information.
• Review floor plans, survey notes, photos, and videos to define spatial constraints and installation scopes.
• Estimate device quantities, cable runs, power supplies, labor requirements, project costs, and target margins.
• Prepare itemized material lists, formal client quotations, and technical explanations based on engineering notes and inspection logs.
• Obtain vendor pricing, identify system upgrade opportunities, and maintain quotation records.
• Coordinate with installation engineers, project teams, client representatives, and internal Service and Operations teams.

Requirements

• At least one year of dedicated experience designing fire alarm systems to industry standards.
• Experience in fire and security system estimating, technical desktop surveying, or design.
• Working knowledge of fire detection systems, intruder alarms, IP CCTV, and access control.
• Ability to read scale architectural drawings and schematic diagrams and take digital measurements.
• Understanding of British Standards, especially BS 5839, with familiarity with BS 5266, BS 7858, and EN 50131/PD 6662.
• Ability to calculate unit margins, project costs, and accurate formal quotations.

Nice to have

• Previous installation or service engineering experience.
• Experience with CAD or PDF markup tools such as Bluebeam for digital takeoffs.
• Familiarity with Texecom, Hikvision, Paxton, C-TEC, Ajax, EMS Smartcell, or Pyronix.
