Sr. Principal Software Engineer (Network Security, PanOS)

Location: Santa Clara, San Francisco, or San Jose, California, United States. Most teams work from the office full time.

Salary: $183,600–$297,000 per year, with potential bonus and restricted stock units.

What you will do

• Design and develop Layer-7 identity and inspection security features for next-generation firewalls.
• Own technical focus areas across the software development lifecycle.
• Define functional specifications, estimate requirements and schedules, and support development, debugging, and field issues.
• Identify performance bottlenecks and implement improvements for secure, scalable software.
• Collaborate with product management, quality assurance, and field support teams.
• Interview, mentor, and coach new team members.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical or military experience.
• 12+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant senior technical leadership experience.
• Strong proficiency in C and C++ on Unix-based platforms.
• Understanding of software development methodologies, version control systems, and agile practices.
• Knowledge of networking concepts, TCP/IP, TLS, and Layer 4–7 protocols.
• Experience with web proxies and developing software for performance, scalability, and security.

Nice to have

• Experience working with TLS and web proxies.
• Ability to use AI agents as a software development co-pilot.
