Senior Electrical Designer (Nuclear Energy)

Location: Torrance, California, United States; onsite. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

Salary: $144,000–$176,000 USD per year

What you will do

• Develop and maintain one-line and three-line diagrams, schematics, wiring and interconnection diagrams, panel schedules, load lists, motor elementary diagrams, and other electrical design deliverables.
• Design power distribution layouts, cable schedules, raceways, tray and conduit routing, cable sizing, voltage-drop checks, and signal and power segregation.
• Produce control panel, enclosure, grounding, bonding, lightning protection, hazardous-area, and instrumentation installation drawings.
• Apply CAD standards, generate bills of material and material take-offs, and review vendor and contractor drawing packages.
• Perform field walkdowns, capture redlines, resolve routing and constructability conflicts, and produce as-built and turnover documentation.
• Support construction and commissioning teams while providing checking, mentoring, and technical direction to junior designers and drafting contractors.

Requirements

• Associate degree or technical diploma in electrical design, drafting, or engineering technology, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 5 years of electrical or instrumentation and control design experience in power generation, process industries, or industrial facilities.
• Proficiency with EPLAN Electric P8 or equivalent and/or AVEVA Electrical, including complete, checked, issue-ready drawing packages and database-driven deliverables.
• Hands-on experience with one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, raceway layouts, control panels, grounding, shielding, and signal segregation.
• Working knowledge of NEC/NFPA 70, hazardous-area wiring methods under NEC Article 500/505 or IEC 60079, and interpretation of P&IDs, loop diagrams, and instrument data sheets.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

Nice to have

• Proficiency with both EPLAN and AVEVA Electrical, plus experience with AutoCAD Electrical, SmartPlant, Bentley, or 3D plant design platforms.
• Experience with UL 508A industrial control panels, medium-voltage distribution, generator connections, or utility interconnection drawings.
• Knowledge of IEEE 384 or equivalent nuclear separation criteria, NQA-1, 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, IEC 62443, or NIST SP 800-82.
• ADDA Certified Drafter, NICET certification, or equivalent credentials.
