Director, Platform Engineering (Cloud)

Location: Boston, United States; hybrid work arrangement. The role provides 18 remote workdays per quarter, subject to manager approval, with regular office attendance.

Base salary: $200,000–$210,000 USD annually, plus eligibility for a discretionary annual bonus and additional total rewards.

What you will do

• Set the technical direction for platform engineering and define the target-state architecture across applications, integrations, cloud environments, and shared engineering capabilities.
• Lead modernization initiatives that transition legacy applications and platforms toward microservices, event-driven systems, and micro-frontend architectures.
• Define shared frameworks, common services, and reusable architectural building blocks to reduce redundancy and simplify the technology landscape.
• Partner with engineering, product, delivery, data, security, vendor, and enterprise technology stakeholders to guide initiatives from concept through adoption.
• Provide hands-on mentorship on modern web systems using Angular, React, TypeScript, Node.js, and API-based service layers.
• Mentor senior engineers and promote engineering excellence, standardization, and continuous modernization.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience spanning management, software engineering, cloud platforms, and large-scale technology modernization.
• Bachelor’s degree in a technology-related field, an advanced degree, or equivalent experience.
• Hands-on experience with microservices, micro-frontends, event-driven architecture, distributed systems, APIs, and enterprise integration.
• Strong cloud engineering and cloud-native architecture experience, preferably with Azure, including identity, networking, observability, resilience, and scalable application patterns.
• Practical expertise with Angular, React, TypeScript, Node.js, Kafka, Redis, CI/CD, infrastructure automation, environment management, and release governance.
• Strong communication and mentoring skills, with the ability to translate architecture strategy and technical trade-offs for executives, engineering leaders, and non-technical partners.

Nice to have

• Experience with application portfolio modernization, platform rationalization, and legacy-to-modern transition states.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes or OpenShift container platforms and orchestration technologies.
