Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) (Autonomous Vehicles)

Location: Foster City, California, United States; hybrid workplace

Base salary: $161,000–$220,000 per year

Zoox is developing a fully autonomous vehicle fleet and the supporting mobility ecosystem for urban environments.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain large-scale event-driven software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop tests and testing frameworks.
• Architect and manage continuous integration pipelines that automate regression test execution.
• Lead root cause analysis for complex system-level failures using log-mining scripts, visualization dashboards, Grafana, and SQL-based notebooks.
• Perform gap analyses between safety requirements and technical test implementations.
• Lead end-to-end validation and safety clearance for critical monitors, including collision detection systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 4+ years of experience with ownership of complex projects.
• Strong experience delivering complex projects in Python, including infrastructure development, tooling, and automated test writing with AI-based coding.
• Deep understanding of hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop methodologies, including real-time fault injection.
• Experience building and maintaining automated testing pipelines with Bamboo, Jenkins, or similar CI tools, including custom automation plugins.
• Practical knowledge of Linux internals and networking protocols for high-throughput real-time systems, plus strong technical communication skills.
