Staff Machine Learning Engineer, Fulfillment Planning

Location: San Francisco, CA or Sunnyvale, CA, United States

Salary: $203,500–$299,300 USD base salary, plus potential equity grants.

What you will do

• Design, develop, deploy, and operate large-scale production machine learning systems for fulfillment planning.
• Own ML systems for real-time assignment and fulfillment estimation, improving delivery quality, cost, and efficiency.
• Lead 0→1 initiatives applying machine learning and optimization to assignment, routing, batching, demand shaping, and fulfillment execution.
• Define architectures and standards for model development, deployment, monitoring, retraining, and governance.
• Help shape an LLM-inspired foundation model for logistics intelligence.
• Mentor engineers and influence technical direction across Product, Data Science, Engineering, and Platform teams.

Requirements

• 8+ years of industry experience building and deploying production-scale machine learning systems.
• Strong machine learning fundamentals and experience applying them to large-scale production systems.
• Fluency in Python and hands-on experience with modern machine learning and deep learning frameworks.
• Experience launching and operating mission-critical ML models or systems, including monitoring, retraining, reliability, and governance.
• Ability to lead complex technical projects, influence multiple teams, and communicate with technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience building large-scale ML models for recommendation, advertising, marketplaces, logistics, or related domains, including knowledge distillation from large teacher models.
