What you will do

• Identify failure modes and drive architectural decisions for foundational clinical AI models.
• Design and implement learning loops to turn real-world signals into safe, compounding model improvements.
• Optimize models for accuracy, latency, and cost through techniques like capability routing, distillation, and speculative decoding.
• Contribute to population-level clinical reasoning architectures that scale across patient records.
• Distill insights from deep learning and NLP research to maintain a competitive frontier in clinical AI.

Requirements

• 5+ years of ML engineering or applied research experience with a track record of shipping production improvements.
• Deep expertise in reinforcement learning and deep learning within industry or research settings.
• Strong Python fundamentals and experience with frameworks such as PyTorch.
• Experience spanning research to production including training runs, fine-tuning, and deployment pipelines.
• Must be based in the US and able to work in the San Francisco office 3 days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with clinical data systems like EHR, FHIR, or medical ontologies.
• Prior work in healthcare AI or other high-stakes, regulated domains.
• Publications in top-tier venues (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL, etc.).
• Open-source contributions to ML libraries or benchmarks.
