People Operations / HR Manager

Location: Greater Denver area strongly preferred; remote candidates must be in the Central, Mountain, or Pacific time zones. Regular travel is required, including visits to the Denver and San Francisco offices at least once per quarter, quarterly leadership meetings, and the annual summer retreat.

Salary: $100,000–$120,000 annually, plus eligibility for a performance-based bonus.

What you will do

• Own the full people function, including employee lifecycle management, HR operations, recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, and manager support.
• Advise the COO and leadership team on organizational design, compensation philosophy, people risks, benefits, and workforce planning.
• Manage payroll, benefits, HR systems, employee records, and policies using Gusto and related platforms.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws across a multi-state workforce and support internationally based employees through an EOR provider.
• Lead recruiting operations, including job descriptions, interview plans, ATS management, candidate communication, offers, and onboarding.
• Build engagement, culture, internal communications, retreats, and connection programs for a distributed team.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on HR or People Operations experience.
• Experience independently managing full-cycle recruiting, ATS administration, candidate communication, interview coordination, offers, and onboarding.
• Strong knowledge of multi-state employment law and HR best practices.
• Experience supporting managers and handling employee relations with empathy, clarity, and accountability.
• Comfort working in a fast-growing and evolving environment.
• Ability to work from the Central, Mountain, or Pacific time zones and travel regularly to Denver and San Francisco.

Nice to have

• Experience as the sole or primary HR professional in a small or growing company.
• Experience supporting distributed or remote-first teams.
• International or EOR experience.
• Familiarity with Gusto, Workable, or similar HRIS, payroll, and ATS platforms.
• Experience supporting hourly and salaried employees or working in outdoor, retail, consumer goods, or startup environments.
