Frontend Architect (React)

Location: Canada; 100% remote work. Current legal authorization to work in Canada is required. Visa and work permit sponsorship is not available.

Base salary: CAD $152,000–$171,000 per year, plus potential bonuses, commissions, equity, and other incentives.

What you will do

• Lead technical discovery and own frontend and edge architecture for modern, high-performance, real-time web applications built on AWS.
• Design browser, edge, and API-layer interactions using React, Next.js, GraphQL, AWS AppSync, CloudFront, AWS WAF, and Terraform.
• Author architecture decisions, solution designs, diagrams, trade-off analyses, and recommendations for technical and executive stakeholders.
• Guide delivery teams through planning, standups, retrospectives, and customer-facing engagements.
• Stay hands-on with coding, frontend standards, design reviews, code reviews, and mentoring of senior and mid-level engineers.
• Collaborate with designers, backend architects, DevOps engineers, and project managers to align user experiences with APIs, data models, security, and infrastructure.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software development experience, including 3+ years in frontend engineering and 1+ year in a technical lead or architect role.
• Expert-level React and TypeScript experience, including state management, rendering performance, component architecture, and design systems.
• Deep Next.js experience with App Router, server components, SSR, SSG, ISR, route handlers, middleware, caching, and AWS hosting trade-offs.
• Strong GraphQL experience, including schema design, queries, mutations, pagination, caching, client libraries, and real-time subscriptions over WebSockets.
• Hands-on AWS AppSync, CloudFront, AWS WAF, CI/CD, frontend testing, web security, accessibility, performance, and observability experience.
• Experience with generative AI tools and AI-powered frontend features, plus client-facing consulting and stakeholder communication.

Nice to have

• AWS Solutions Architect or Developer certification.
• Experience with micro-frontends, monorepos, design systems, identity providers, API gateways, and BFF patterns.
• Experience with AWS CDK, CloudFormation, Terraform, LLMs, Amazon Bedrock, and AI-first user experiences.
• Consulting or professional services experience.
