Lead Front-End Developer (React/Next.js)

Location: Remote or hybrid in the United States or Canada; Chicago-area applicants must work onsite part time in a light hybrid model.

Salary: 120,000–180,000 CAD annually, with possible additional incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Lead front-end implementation and technical direction from discovery through delivery.
• Establish project architecture, development standards, component patterns, and implementation approaches.
• Build performant, accessible, responsive, and maintainable digital experiences.
• Guide design system and component library implementation in collaboration with designers and architects.
• Identify technical risks, support estimation and planning, and recommend mitigation strategies.
• Mentor developers through code reviews, pairing, coaching, and technical guidance.

Requirements

• At least 6 years of professional front-end development experience.
• Advanced HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript skills, including complex data modeling.
• Significant production experience with React and Next.js.
• Strong front-end architecture, component design, responsive development, Git, branching, and code review skills.
• Experience with Figma, design systems, component libraries, WCAG 2.2, semantic markup, Core Web Vitals, and headless CMS platforms.
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code, while maintaining strong engineering fundamentals.

Nice to have

• Experience in a digital experience agency environment.
• Experience with GSAP, Framer Motion, Three.js, or similar JavaScript animation libraries.
