Backend Engineer (Web3)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco or New York, United States

Compensation: $160,000–$175,000 per year, plus equity and bonus

What you will do

• Build and operate blockchain ingestion, indexing, storage, and API-serving systems.
• Handle reorganizations, retries, duplicate events, historical backfills, and data recovery scenarios.
• Improve query performance, data freshness, observability, and customer-facing reliability.
• Extend API capabilities and blockchain coverage with tests for chain-specific behavior and data semantics.
• Develop streaming and event-delivery capabilities with guarantees for ordering, replay, and failure recovery.
• Participate in production support, incident response, monitoring, runbook maintenance, and safe rollouts.

Requirements

• Experience independently designing, shipping, and operating production backend or distributed data systems.
• Strong programming skills in a production backend language, with experience in databases, indexing, and query performance.
• Ability to reason about consistency, partitioning, asynchronous processing, and failure recovery.
• Experience diagnosing production problems and improving systems beyond immediate fixes.
• Sound API design judgment covering compatibility, pagination, error handling, and data contracts.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to turn ambiguous customer problems into scoped engineering projects.

Nice to have

• Experience with ClickHouse or other analytical databases, and Kafka or similar streaming systems.
• Knowledge of blockchain indexers, EVM logs and traces, finality, or non-EVM data models.
• Experience with developer-facing data APIs, real-time delivery, large historical datasets, storage migrations, or production optimization.
