Principal Structural Engineer (Data Centers)

Location: Denver, Colorado with 3 days in-office and 2 flexible days, or remote within the United States. Travel is required for site visits, construction observations, and fabrication and off-site manufacturing facility visits.

Salary: $170,000–$175,000 base salary plus bonus.

What you will do

• Lead structural design for data center foundations, steel and concrete framing, floor systems, equipment supports, expansions, retrofits, and modular deployments.
• Establish structural requirements, reference designs, technical standards, and design guardrails for data center platforms across multiple jurisdictions.
• Design and review prefabricated and modular systems, including modular skids, precast components, factory-built PODs, and off-site assembled MEP yards.
• Address transportation, lifting, rigging, installation, tolerances, and interfaces between factory-built modules and site-built infrastructure.
• Lead design reviews, shop drawing and submittal reviews, constructability assessments, value-engineering reviews, and resolution of complex structural interfaces.
• Provide technical direction, mentor engineers, and coordinate with architecture, civil, MEP, manufacturing, fabrication, construction, and regional delivery teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Professional Engineer license required.
• 10 or more years of structural engineering experience, including at least four years supporting data centers or other mission-critical facilities.
• Hands-on experience with modular or prefabricated construction, foundations, steel and concrete framing, floor systems, equipment supports, transportation, lifting, and rigging.
• Strong knowledge of ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC, IBC, seismic and wind design requirements, and other applicable codes and standards.
• Proficiency with structural analysis and design software such as ETABS, SAP2000, RISA, or RAM, plus experience reviewing calculations, technical submittals, shop drawings, and construction documentation.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or Structural Engineer license, particularly for high-seismic markets.
• Experience partnering with modular fabricators or off-site manufacturing facilities.
• Experience leading structural design for hyperscale or colocation data center projects.
• Revit and BIM coordination experience, including clash detection across prefabricated and site-built interfaces.
• Experience developing repeatable structural standards, reference designs, retrofit solutions, or infrastructure upgrades.
