Senior Database Reliability Engineer I (PostgreSQL)

What you will do

• Own the reliability, performance, scalability, and cost efficiency of the PostgreSQL platform, primarily Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL.
• Lead zero-downtime Aurora upgrades, schema migrations, query and index optimization, and prevention of execution-plan regressions.
• Manage vacuum and bloat, connection pooling, locking, replication, capacity planning, backups, restores, and disaster recovery.
• Review database changes and build guardrails, tooling, monitoring, alerting, and observability for safe platform operations.
• Contribute to AWS infrastructure, Terraform, CI/CD, security tooling, incident response, on-call rotations, postmortems, documentation, and mentoring.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in database engineering, database reliability, infrastructure, or SRE roles with substantial production PostgreSQL ownership.
• Deep PostgreSQL expertise, including MVCC, EXPLAIN ANALYZE, indexing, vacuum behavior, locking, connection pooling, and configuration tuning.
• Strong experience with Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, AWS-managed database services, zero-downtime upgrades, complex schema migrations, replication, partitioning, read scaling, and disaster recovery.
• Experience with Terraform on AWS, Linux, scripting with Bash, Python, Ruby, or Go, monitoring and observability, IAM, secrets management, and network segmentation.
• Experience with production change, incident, and problem management, Git, and CI/CD workflows for database changes.
• Strong communication skills, willingness to participate in on-call rotations, and a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with Ruby on Rails, Python, Rust, or Elixir backend environments.
• Knowledge of Redis, Memcached, analytics pipelines, data warehouses, or CDC-based data flows.
• Experience with ECS, EKS, Fargate, NoSQL or vector databases, or relevant AWS certifications.
