Data Engineering Lead (BigQuery/GCP)

What you will do

• Own the data engineering architecture across the Customer, Commercial, and Operations domains.
• Define shared standards for ingestion, transformation, storage, testing, documentation, error handling, and code review.
• Lead the evolution of the BigQuery/GCP platform, including migrations, legacy pipeline modernisation, and scalability improvements.
• Build reliable, consolidated domain datasets and establish foundations for a single source of truth through reconciliation, deduplication, and mastering.
• Work with Ingenuity and the Data Governance Lead to define platform interfaces, implement governance standards, and protect data quality and availability.
• Manage, coach, and develop six domain-aligned engineers while promoting technical excellence and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Expert, hands-on experience building and operating production data pipelines with BigQuery and GCP.
• Strong Python skills for pipeline development, data transformation, and automation.
• Experience in at least two of the Customer, Commercial, and Operations data domains.
• Experience evolving data architecture, with deep knowledge of data modelling, pipeline design, and distributed data architecture.
• Experience with Dataform or dbt and practical use of AI in data engineering, such as AI-assisted development, automated quality checks, or anomaly detection.
• Experience mentoring and developing engineers.

Nice to have

• Experience building a Customer Data Platform or equivalent customer data consolidation project.
• Familiarity with data governance principles and collaboration with governance functions.
• Ecommerce or retail experience.
• Experience with streaming or real-time data pipelines.
