Staff Engineer (AI)

Location: Spain; remote or hybrid work model available, with a hub in Barcelona

What you will do

• Own the target architecture for the Marketplace across search, listings, doctors’ profiles, Q&A, and booking.
• Lead the migration from a long-lived PHP monolith to a monorepo built with vertical slices using APIs and React.
• Define safe migration strategies using strangler routing, anti-corruption layers, shadow traffic, staged source-of-truth changes, and data migration.
• Turn Marketplace capabilities into reusable, versioned contracts for other hirify.global products and AI agents.
• Use AI coding agents to prototype and ship production changes while owning design, reviews, correctness, and security.
• Partner with Engineering and Product Managers, mentor senior engineers, and contribute to the Staff+ community.

Requirements

• Experience directing technical work across several teams and influencing architecture through production results.
• Hands-on experience decomposing large legacy systems while they continue serving live traffic.
• Strong distributed-systems and backend-architecture skills in a polyglot environment.
• Practical experience using AI to accelerate software development, including directing AI coding agents while maintaining design, correctness, and security.
• Experience mentoring engineers and improving technical decision-making across teams.
• Fluent English required.

Nice to have

• Experience with two-sided marketplaces, search and discovery, or booking and scheduling systems.
• Experience with large-scale monorepos, build tooling, code ownership, and shared platform conventions.
• Experience exposing product capabilities to AI agents.
• Experience in healthcare or another regulated domain where data privacy and security influence architecture.
