Software Engineer, Lab Platform

Location: Palo Alto, California, United States; onsite at least 3 days per week

Salary: $118,000–$146,000 base salary per year, plus a discretionary annual bonus and eligibility for the Compound Cash Grant Program.

What you will do

• Operate the request queue for laboratory data systems, including troubleshooting, fixes, schema changes, and controlled releases.
• Support experiment-recording templates and command-line tools used to retrieve data for analysis.
• Build and maintain data-quality checks that prevent incorrect records from reaching analysis pipelines.
• Train scientists and create documentation for laboratory data workflows.
• Refactor LIMS teams and permissions, and maintain access controls for data and tools.
• Convert recurring manual requests into scripts, scheduled jobs, template changes, or AI-agent workflows with code review, checks, and runbooks.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with 0–2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree.
• Strong Python and SQL skills with comfort working with REST APIs.
• Ability to debug unfamiliar systems using code, logs, and data.
• Experience using AI coding tools or readiness to learn, with careful handling of sensitive research data.
• Ability to explain technical concepts to scientists and create useful documentation and training.
• Availability to work onsite in the Palo Alto office at least 3 days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with a LIMS or ELN such as Benchling, or with laboratory data including samples and sequencing metadata.
• Experience automating recurring manual work with scripts, bots, or agents.
• Experience with CI pipelines, tests, repository templates, help desks, teaching-assistant work, or on-call support.
