Senior Manager Software Engineering (Insurance)

Location: Remote within the United States. An in-person interview may be required during the hiring process.

Salary: USD $128,136–$252,194 annually, with state-specific pay ranges; California hiring range is $171,148.50–$237,706.25.

What you will do

• Build and manage high-performing software engineering teams through hiring, mentoring, motivation, and leadership development.
• Drive budgeting, planning, roadmap prioritization, estimation, and delivery across multiple business and technology areas.
• Translate product requirements into secure, modular, scalable, configurable, and maintainable application designs.
• Lead hands-on delivery of new features, large refactors, migrations, and process improvements across web, mobile, backend, data, and other technology stacks.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineering teams, and stakeholders to remove impediments and deliver high-quality customer-facing functionality.
• Develop technical vision, strategy, innovation, and best practices for Mercury’s application systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading and managing staff.
• Experience managing multiple engineering teams and developing next-level managers and leaders.
• Strong experience with distributed systems, APIs, messaging, data streaming, workflow and integration frameworks, microservices, containers, and cloud computing.
• Experience with project planning, estimation, execution, progress tracking, communication, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Experience driving quality, security, compliance, scalability, maintainability, observability, DevSecOps, and operational excellence.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Computer Science.
• Experience leading customer-facing digital experiences across web, portal, and transactional channels.
• Insurance or P&C insurance domain experience.
• Experience with digital transformation, cloud transformation, legacy migration, modernization, or AI/ML adoption.
