Senior Project Manager - NEPA/Phase I

Location: Hybrid position in Chicago, Illinois, United States, combining in-office collaboration with flexible remote work. Occasional travel is required for project and client needs.

Salary: $150,000–$200,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead IDOT Phase I engineering and NEPA studies for roadway, intersection, interchange, bridge, safety, and multimodal transportation projects.
• Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, staffing, quality, risks, and overall delivery.
• Develop and evaluate transportation alternatives, including geometric concepts, traffic and safety analyses, environmental impacts, and preliminary cost estimates.
• Coordinate with IDOT, FHWA, local and regulatory agencies, stakeholders, property owners, and the public.
• Lead public involvement activities, multidisciplinary teams, subconsultants, technical reviews, and QA/QC efforts.
• Support client relationships, proposals, business development, and staff mentoring.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Professional Engineer license in Illinois, or ability to obtain it within four months of hire.
• 10+ years of transportation engineering experience, including leadership or management of Phase I engineering, NEPA, transportation planning, or environmental studies.
• Strong knowledge of the IDOT Phase I project development process and NEPA requirements.
• Experience with alternatives analysis, preliminary roadway geometrics, traffic and safety evaluations, environmental coordination, and Phase I documentation.
• Proficiency with MicroStation, OpenRoads, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam, and ProjectWise.

Nice to have

• Experience with wetlands, threatened and endangered species, cultural resources, special waste, Section 4(f), and related environmental studies.
• Experience leading public and stakeholder engagement for transportation projects.
• PMP, PTOE, or other relevant professional certification.
