Quality Engineer II (Workflow Automation / Appian) (Remote) (Appian)

Location: Home-based remote role associated with Oak Brook, Illinois, United States; relocation is not provided.

Salary: $75,700–$102,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead quality assurance efforts for software products and workflow-based business applications.
• Create test plans, automated test cases, test suites, and reusable automation frameworks.
• Develop and execute automation scripts using open-source testing tools.
• Validate end-to-end workflows, user tasks, decision logic, integrations, approvals, handoffs, exception handling, and downstream processes.
• Perform functional, regression, performance, smoke, and automation-first testing while tracking defects and reporting quality status.
• Collaborate with product owners, engineers, platform configuration teams, and business stakeholders during requirements reviews, Agile ceremonies, code reviews, and planning.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of software quality assurance experience focused on automated testing and leading testing efforts.
• Strong proficiency with automation tools and frameworks such as Selenium, Playwright, Appium, JUnit, or TestNG.
• Ability to code automated tests in Java, C#, Python, or similar languages.
• Experience creating test plans, test cases, workflow scenarios, acceptance criteria, defect reports, and SDLC documentation.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, leadership, and collaboration skills.
• Understanding of Agile, Scrum, Kanban, SDLC, workflow routing, integrations, APIs, data dependencies, and role-based security.

Nice to have

• Experience with Appian, workflow automation, case management, low-code platforms, or business process management solutions.
• Experience with XML, JavaScript, .NET, T-SQL, JQuery, JSON, Salesforce, ADO, JMeter, or LoadRunner.
• QA testing certifications such as ISTQB Advanced Level, CSTE, CSQA, or CAST.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, statistics, data science, or a related discipline.
