Manufacturing Test Engineer, Embedded Software

Location: Full-time, on-site at Sunnyvale HQ, Sunnyvale, California, United States

Base salary: $150,000–$185,000 per year

What you will do

• Design and develop the K7 end-of-line test framework and station software from the ground up.
• Build low-level tools and utilities for vehicle controllers, onboard compute, firmware, and embedded hardware.
• Flash and validate firmware and software images and enforce production pass/fail release gates.
• Implement calibration routines for cameras, LiDAR, IMUs, and other vehicle sensors.
• Record serial numbers, calibration data, and test results in a central database and report yield, failure modes, and station performance.
• Develop operator interfaces, debug production failures, and collaborate with hardware, firmware, autonomy, manufacturing, and technician teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical, robotics, or controls engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of software development experience in hardware test, manufacturing test, or embedded systems for vehicles, robots, or complex electromechanical products.
• Experience designing and writing test software or tooling from scratch.
• Strong Python and solid C or C++ for test automation and hardware-facing development.
• Hands-on experience with microcontrollers or embedded Linux, firmware flashing, bootloaders, JTAG/SWD, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
• Knowledge of CAN/CAN-FD, Ethernet, USB, UART, SPI, I2C, SCPI, electrical schematics, Git, code review, and automated testing; effective use of AI assistants for coding, debugging, and research.

Nice to have

• Production calibration experience with cameras, LiDAR, IMUs, or other sensors.
• Automotive diagnostics and end-of-line flashing experience, including UDS or OBD.
• Experience with RTOS firmware, Linux device drivers, autonomous vehicles, mobile robotics, EVs, or automotive Tier-1 suppliers.
• Experience with ROS/ROS 2, pytest, OpenHTF, MES, or test databases.
