Senior Software Engineer (COBOL)

Location: Hybrid in La Vergne, Tennessee, United States; four days per week at the Ingram headquarters and one day remote.

Hiring salary range: $110,981–$141,123 annually.

What you will do

• Develop, test, implement, and support enterprise mainframe COBOL applications for order processing.
• Integrate applications with MQ, API middleware, databases, and systems supporting warehouse processing, billing, sales, and credit processing.
• Manage requirements, specifications, design, development, quality assurance, deployment, and ongoing application support.
• Collaborate with clients, users, product owners, and technical teams on solution design and implementation.
• Review application workflow, usability, performance, and adherence to development standards.
• Coordinate project work, communicate status and issues, mentor colleagues, and provide technical leadership.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or directly related experience.
• At least 6 years of application development experience as an application engineer or senior programmer analyst.
• At least 5 years of mainframe COBOL and/or mainframe iSeries development experience.
• At least 5 years of relational database experience.
• Strong experience with COBOL on mainframe platforms, TSO/ISPF, and enterprise batch or online processing.
• Strong database skills with DB2, Oracle, and SQL.

Nice to have

• Experience with logistics order-to-delivery, distribution, or transportation processes.
• Experience creating design patterns, standards, and best practices, including third-party and database integrations.
• Experience with modern COBOL environments and AI-enabled tools for legacy-code analysis and modernization.
• Experience mentoring others and guiding technical work across teams and technical domains.
