Senior Transmission Planning Engineer (Power Systems)

Location: Hybrid in Oakland, California, with the assigned work location within the PG&E service territory

Salary: $161,520–$207,504 per year

What you will do

• Lead transmission planning studies, interconnection assessments, load-forecast approvals, and annual transmission planning and expansion plans.
• Prepare base cases, generator testing, and power-system models, including HVDC and other non-standard equipment models.
• Develop analytical methods for power-flow and dynamic-stability analysis and lead complex RAS-related studies.
• Provide technical guidance to engineering, operations, asset strategy, distribution planning, legal, and contracts teams.
• Lead implementation of complex transmission projects, including projects requiring PTC and CPCN permits.
• Support FERC, NERC, WECC, and CAISO compliance, regulatory filings, gap analyses, and capital-investment planning.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited US program or equivalent international education.
• At least 8 years of experience in electric transmission planning or operations.
• Advanced knowledge of power-system theory and transmission planning practices.
• Programming skills in Matlab, Python, VBA, or EPCL.
• Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement with an assigned location within the PG&E service territory.
• This position is represented by the Engineers and Scientists of California and is subject to collective bargaining.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of PG&E’s electric transmission system.
• Knowledge of NERC and WECC standards.
• California PE license.
• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
