TL;DR
Head of Operations Engineering (AI): Building the pipelines, evaluation systems, monitoring, governance, and cost controls that operationalize AI features for a platform used by more than 70 million people with an accent on production reliability, model and prompt versioning, and internal AI adoption. Focus on driving build-vs-buy decisions, managing cost and latency, establishing data and vendor guardrails, and mentoring teams across Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Support.
Location: Melbourne or Sydney offices on a hybrid basis, or remote within Australia

What you will do
- Own the platform that supports AI features, including pipelines, model and prompt versioning, evaluations, monitoring, and cost controls.
- Drive internal AI adoption through tooling, agent workflows, and enablement for Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Customer Support.
- Establish proportionate governance for data handling, vendor risk, and pre-launch evaluation.
- Partner with Data, Engineering, and Product leadership to prioritize AI investments against the roadmap and financial model.
- Make pragmatic build-versus-buy decisions and mentor engineers and analysts working on AI products.
Requirements
- 5–7 years of experience in ML/AI engineering, data platforms, or AI operations, including hands-on ownership of production systems.
- Experience operating AI or ML systems in production, including pipelines, model and prompt versioning, evaluation, monitoring, and incident response.
- Working fluency with modern LLM tooling and practical understanding of cost, latency, context limits, and non-deterministic outputs.
- Experience driving internal AI adoption and changing how teams work.
- Strong build-versus-buy judgment, pragmatic decision-making, and ability to establish data, vendor-risk, and evaluation guardrails.
- Ability to work from Melbourne or Sydney offices on a hybrid basis, or remotely within Australia.
