Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Los Angeles or San Francisco, USA

Base salary: $220,000–$250,000 annually for roles based in San Francisco and Los Angeles; final offers vary by location, experience, expertise, and scope.

What you will do

• Lead and mentor a cross-functional engineering squad focused on activation and early user experiences.
• Contribute hands-on through coding, prototyping, architecture guidance, technical reviews, and critical implementation work.
• Partner with Product, Design, and Data to identify opportunities, shape experiments, and deliver scalable user-facing experiences.
• Use analytics and experimentation to improve activation, engagement, retention, and conversion.
• Drive technical excellence through architecture, testing, performance, operational reliability, and healthy on-call practices.
• Embed AI tooling and workflows to improve developer productivity, prototyping, and delivery speed.

Requirements

• Experience with modern software development and architecture, with the technical depth to contribute hands-on.
• Proven experience leading engineers and shipping user-facing products, preferably in consumer, product-led, growth, or metrics-driven environments.
• Strong people leadership skills, including mentoring, feedback, and career development.
• Comfort working with experimentation, analytics, user insights, ambiguity, and evolving priorities.
• Ability to balance speed, quality, scalability, prioritization, and technical tradeoffs.
• Collaborative product mindset and experience working with Product, Design, Data, and Engineering partners.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with TypeScript, React, GraphQL, AWS, or PHP.
• Experience with growth, activation, experimentation, onboarding, or conversion-focused product surfaces.
• Experience with high-scale consumer or product-led products.
