Software Development Engineer (US Federal)

Location: Reston, Virginia, United States; Flex work with at least 50% of each quarter spent in the office or field. The role supports U.S. Federal Government contracts and requires U.S. citizenship. Regular work from a SCIF may be required.

Salary: $137,000–$205,400 annual base pay for the primary location; additional U.S. locations have a $123,900–$222,000 annual base pay range.

What you will do

• Deploy services to AWS EKS production environments using Terraform and Argo CD.
• Operate metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting services handling terabytes of data, billions of documents, and millions of active time series.
• Build metrics, logs, alerts, dashboards, test environments, tooling, and automation for CI/CD.
• Collaborate with cyber defense teams on cybersecurity, governance, risk, compliance, and platform security.
• Participate in on-call support, resolve internal service issues, and write ADRs, RCAs, runbooks, and other technical documentation.
• Support observability services in air-gapped regions and coordinate engineering practices across government and non-government environments.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• At least five years of experience building and deploying highly scalable software.
• Experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, plus scripting in any programming language.
• Understanding of system design and distributed systems, with strong Kubernetes and Linux administration knowledge.
• Demonstrable experience with Prometheus, Grafana Mimir, Fluent Bit, Kafka, and Elasticsearch.
• U.S. citizenship is required because of federal government security requirements.
