Staff Software Engineer / Tech Lead (Node.js)

Location: Hybrid, based out of the American Fork, Utah office; must be authorized to work in the U.S.

What you will do

• Set the technical direction, architecture, methodologies, and engineering practices for a backend engineering team.
• Build and maintain production-grade Node.js and TypeScript backend services and APIs.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and ongoing technical coaching.
• Partner with Product Management, QA, and DevOps to define requirements, estimate work, and coordinate integrations.
• Plan and deliver software projects while managing timelines and changing priorities.
• Improve development workflows, remove bottlenecks, and apply relevant industry technologies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 7+ years of professional backend or API development experience.
• 3+ years of professional Node.js and TypeScript experience building production services.
• Strong problem-solving, root-cause analysis, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Experience with agile software development methodologies and related tools and processes.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S.; employment includes drug screening and background checks.

Nice to have

• GraphQL query and mutation implementation and optimization.
• OpenAPI and REST API design and development.
• SQL, Java, NestJS, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD experience.
• MQTT and Protocol Buffers experience.
