TL;DR
Lead Backend Developer (Vue/Nuxt): Taking technical ownership of a startup financing platform, developing backend features, managing architecture and running the AWS-based platform with an accent on PHP/Laravel, Vue/Nuxt integration, testing and operational reliability. Focus on bringing an externally developed codebase in-house, designing safe release processes, reviewing AI-assisted code and supporting frontend architecture.
Location: Remote within the EU or hybrid from the office in Vienna, Austria
Salary: €60,000 gross per year minimum, with a higher offer possible depending on qualifications and experience.

Calmar is a European startup financing platform built by Gateway Ventures, supporting funding rounds, pooled investments and investor portfolio management for investor networks, founders and investors.
What you will do
- Take technical ownership of the existing platform, its architecture and backend.
- Develop new features and operate the platform on AWS.
- Bring the codebase, knowledge and operations from an external development partner into the in-house team.
- Set up and improve automated testing, code reviews, monitoring and safe release processes.
- Use AI tools in development and review generated code for quality and security.
- Support the Product Designer and Frontend Engineer with architecture and code reviews.
Requirements
- Several years of experience building production web applications across architecture, backend and operations.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS.
- Structured approach to understanding existing systems and clearly explaining technical decisions.
- Hands-on ownership mindset and ability to share technical knowledge.
- Confident communication in German and English is required.
- Experience with PHP/Laravel, Vue.js, Nuxt and taking over a codebase from an external agency or partner.
Nice to have
- Additional experience with AWS and PHP/Laravel.
- Experience transitioning software development from an external partner to an internal team.
