Payroll Manager - Europe (Fintech)

What you will do

• Own end-to-end payroll across the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Austria, and Switzerland, with possible scope expansion to Bulgaria.
• Ensure accurate, timely payroll processing and compliance with local labor law, payroll tax, statutory requirements, registrations, and de-registrations.
• Stabilize and optimize payroll operations in Deel, including country migrations, employee onboarding, employment changes, integrations, and data integrity.
• Design and maintain payroll governance, controls, approval frameworks, RACI structures, SOPs, documentation, and audit-ready processes.
• Partner with Finance, Accounting, Tax, HR Operations, Country Managers, and senior leadership on reporting, audits, variable pay, benefits, and regulatory risks.
• Own vendor governance and issue resolution with Deel while leading, developing, and coaching the payroll team.

Requirements

• 10+ years of payroll experience, including substantial international and multi-country payroll experience and several years in a leadership role.
• Experience operating payroll across multiple European jurisdictions; experience with Italy, France, and Germany is strongly advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of payroll tax, statutory compliance, labor law interactions, and new-hire and leaver registration requirements.
• Experience with variable or commission-heavy pay structures, global payroll platforms, and payroll optimization after system implementation.
• Experience designing and maintaining payroll governance, controls, approvals, and audit-ready processes, preferably in regulated fintech, financial services, or payments environments.
• Fluent English, written and spoken, is required.
