China Business and Finance Correspondent (China)

Location: Initially based in Hong Kong, with the intention of moving to a China bureau in Beijing, Shanghai, or Guangzhou after receiving the appropriate visa. FT Newsroom staff are expected to work onsite at least three days per week.

What you will do

• Report and write original stories about business and finance in China.
• Break news through reporting, interviews, and collaboration with local researchers.
• Produce sharp analysis, magazine features, podcasts, and video content.
• Cover major Chinese companies, financial institutions, consumer trends, and regulatory developments.
• Pitch ideas to editors in Hong Kong and deliver accurate copy on deadline.
• Represent the hirify.global at relevant events and travel across China.

Requirements

• Several years of reporting experience at a mainstream publication, ideally covering China.
• Strong writing, reporting, communication, resilience, and tenacity.
• Ability to identify significant news and explain it to financiers, politicians, executives, and professionals worldwide.
• Ability to access and work with regulatory sources in China.
• Ability to work collaboratively with editors, journalists, and local researchers.
• Good working knowledge of Mandarin is highly beneficial.
