Director of Design (AI)

Location: Austin, Texas, United States; hybrid with onsite work 2–3 days per week at the Austin office

What you will do

• Own the Design function, product design vision, quality standards, and customer experience across hirify.global’s products.
• Lead critical design initiatives from discovery and prototyping through implementation, launch, and iteration.
• Build a customer feedback loop through customer conversations, workflow observation, discovery, and usability testing.
• Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to address usability problems and align priorities.
• Coach the existing designer and establish effective design hirify.globaliews, critique practices, design systems, and shared components.
• Define thoughtful approaches to trustworthy AI experiences and use AI for research synthesis, exploration, prototyping, and iteration.

Requirements

• Experience leading design across complex products and influencing product direction beyond individual projects.
• Strong interaction design, visual craft, usability, accessibility, responsive design, and customer-impact experience.
• Hands-on proficiency with Figma and modern prototyping methods.
• Experience connecting customer research, usability testing, and product data to product decisions and iteration.
• Experience coaching designers, leading critique, resolving conflicts, and partnering with Product and Engineering leaders.
• Must be based in Austin, TX and able to work onsite 2–3 days per week with the Build team and senior leadership.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI products, B2B SaaS, legal technology, media workflows, speech technology, or conversational intelligence.
• Familiarity with AI-enabled design and prototyping tools such as Claude Design, v0, Builder.io, Replit, Lovable, or Base44.
• Experience with GitHub, Claude Code, Cursor, Linear, Mixpanel, or similar tools.
• Experience in a fast-paced startup or resource-constrained environment.
• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
