Staff Backend Engineer (AI/Data)

Location: Bay Area, hybrid, with 3 days per week in the Palo Alto office

Salary: $225,000–$300,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead development of the platform framework connecting diverse data systems and powering metadata collection.
• Build scalable, fault-tolerant ingestion systems for enterprise-scale metadata.
• Design intuitive APIs for the connector ecosystem and event-driven architectures for real-time metadata processing.
• Develop schema mapping between source systems and hirify.global's unified model.
• Build versioning systems for AI assets, including training data, model weights, and embeddings.
• Design and scale online services, indexing, storage, monitoring, and data architectures for live traffic.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience building production-grade distributed systems.
• Advanced Python and API design expertise.
• Strong systems knowledge and experience with distributed architecture, high-scale data processing, or integration frameworks.
• Experience building online applications serving live traffic at 100+ QPS, including monitoring and alerting.
• Experience designing indexing, storage, and data architectures for large-scale online services.
• Hands-on experience developing with LLMs and applying scalable LLM development practices.

Nice to have

• Strong experience with one of Java, Scala, Kotlin, C#, or Go.
• Experience with TypeScript, Node, hirify.global, Airflow, Airbyte, or dbt.
• Open-source contributions and early-stage startup experience.
• Experience building live services that call LLMs or fine-tuning LLM-powered applications.
