Staff Backend Engineer, Data (AI)

Salary: $203,000–$275,000 USD annually

What you will do

• Set technical direction for scalable data pipelines and data-serving platforms.
• Design and build systems covering the full lifecycle of financial data, from ingestion and transformation to serving and consumption.
• Create shared frameworks and platforms that enable AI applications and agents to access trusted data.
• Lead multi-team initiatives from technical design through rollout and ongoing operation.
• Establish standards for data quality, observability, recovery, security, and access control.
• Mentor engineers, lead design reviews, resolve complex production issues, and improve query performance and infrastructure efficiency.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience leading complex platform or distributed-systems initiatives.
• Strong proficiency in Python or Java, strong SQL skills, and experience operating production systems.
• Deep experience with databases, data warehouses, ETL or ELT pipelines, data modeling, and large-scale data processes.
• Experience with Spark or similar distributed-processing frameworks, including failure recovery and performance tuning.
• Experience designing and operating cloud services, especially AWS, with knowledge of Kubernetes, deployments, and observability.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools, technical leadership, cross-team alignment, mentoring, and ownership of production outcomes.

Nice to have

• Production experience with Snowflake, Airflow, or dbt.
• Experience building AI applications, agent frameworks, or governed data-access services with evaluation and monitoring.
• Financial services data experience or work in environments where accuracy, privacy, and reliability are essential.
