Senior Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: New York, NY; on-site

Annual salary range: $180,000–$240,000

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs for LangSmith tracing, monitoring, and evaluation workflows.
• Contribute to architectural decisions focused on performance, maintainability, and reliability.
• Optimize storage and query performance for high-volume observability and evaluation data.
• Build testing, monitoring, and alerting practices and resolve production issues through root-cause analysis.
• Create technical documentation covering system design and APIs.
• Collaborate with full-stack engineers, product managers, and product designers to deliver new features.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience on highly complex products.
• Proficiency in one or more backend languages or frameworks, ideally Python or Go.
• Strong API design skills and experience building reliable data services.
• Experience with high-throughput or mission-critical systems and backend performance optimization.
• Experience with Postgres, Redis, ClickHouse, and cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Strong communication, customer centricity, and ownership mentality.
