Lead Embedded Firmware Engineer - US (Full Time)

Location: Remote within the continental United States. The role requires the ability to travel within the US as needed for client engagements.

Base compensation: $175,000 USD, commensurate with experience. Variable compensation: up to 10% annual performance bonus.

What you will do

• Own firmware architecture, technical direction, design decisions, planning, risk management, and release standards.
• Develop and maintain production firmware for ESP32-based connected devices using ESP-IDF.
• Bring up hardware and integrate drivers for sensors, actuators, LEDs, and other peripherals.
• Implement BLE provisioning, Wi-Fi connectivity, AWS IoT Core communication over MQTT, and secure cloud interfaces.
• Build OTA update mechanisms with rollback and staged rollouts, and debug issues across firmware, hardware, wireless, and cloud layers.
• Lead code reviews, mentor engineers, collaborate with clients and hardware teams, and support factory provisioning, certification, and production readiness.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional embedded or firmware engineering experience in C/C++.
• 2+ years in a technical lead role with ownership of firmware architecture, code reviews, and mentoring.
• Strong ESP32 and ESP-IDF experience, including RTOS development, OTA updates, low-level drivers, and production deployment.
• Hands-on experience with BLE, Wi-Fi, wireless protocol debugging, device provisioning, and connected-device interoperability.
• Experience with AWS IoT Core, MQTT over TLS, certificate-based authentication, device state synchronization, and peripheral integration.
• Must reside within the continental US, have proper US work authorization, and be able to travel within the US as needed. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience taking connected products from concept through mass production and supporting EVT, DVT, PVT, or FCC certification.
• Experience with Thread, Zigbee, Z-Wave, BLE Mesh, Nordic nRF platforms, or nRF Connect SDK.
• Experience with JTAG/SWD, logic analyzers, protocol sniffers, embedded security, firmware CI/CD, and automated test tooling.
• Experience working with contract manufacturers, Protocol Buffers, Python test tooling, or open-source embedded projects.
