Staff Embedded Software Engineer (Robotics)

Location: US - Fremont, California. Work arrangements may include a mix of in-office and remote work depending on the role and business needs.

Base salary: $138,764.29-$187,739.92 USD annually, plus eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Define software architecture and technical direction for complex embedded, robotics, motion control, and automation platforms.
• Architect and develop embedded systems spanning applications, middleware, BSPs, device drivers, communications, and hardware interfaces.
• Lead development of distributed control systems, robotic platforms, real-time automation solutions, and industrial networking architectures.
• Lead root-cause investigations and resolve critical issues across software, firmware, hardware, controls, networking, and electromechanical systems.
• Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies, establish architecture and engineering standards, and guide long-term product roadmaps.
• Mentor senior and principal engineers and lead technical reviews with executive leaders, customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.

Requirements

• 10+ years of embedded software development experience for complex real-time systems, with a bachelor's degree or equivalent background; master's degree candidates may qualify with 10+ years of relevant experience.
• Expert proficiency in modern C++ and strong experience with software architecture, design patterns, scalability, maintainability, fault diagnosis, and large-scale embedded platforms.
• Deep expertise in QNX, Real-Time Linux, Embedded Linux, or equivalent RTOS environments, including multithreading, real-time scheduling, memory management, interrupts, DMA, IPC, and performance optimization.
• Experience with BSP customization, device drivers, board bring-up, bootloaders, hardware abstraction layers, ARM-based SoCs, and low-level hardware debugging.
• Experience integrating software with industrial communication networks, sensors, vision systems, motion controllers, drives, robotics systems, or FPGA-based solutions.
• Experience leading large engineering initiatives, establishing CI/CD and automated testing practices, mentoring engineers, and communicating complex technical concepts to executive and customer audiences.

• Advanced degree in controls, robotics, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related discipline.
• Experience with semiconductor automation, precision motion, industrial automation, or commercial product releases.
• Expertise in motion control, robotics, distributed controls, industrial diagnostics, analytics, or machine learning for industrial systems.
