Senior Engineering Manager, Game Experience (Game Development)

Location: Remote-eligible US locations; Long Beach, California is also listed.

Base salary: $149,500–$238,500 per year, depending on role, experience, qualifications, skills, and geographic location.

What you will do

• Lead and support a senior team of 6–8 engineers through coaching, career development, performance management, and hiring.
• Provide technical direction for C++ gameplay systems, including scalable architecture, cross-platform performance, memory management, and long-term maintainability.
• Own features throughout the software development lifecycle, from prototypes through live production.
• Improve operational excellence through automated testing, feature flags, phased rollouts, telemetry, and safe experimentation.
• Own the team roadmap, manage incoming requests, remove blockers, mitigate delivery risks, and maintain stakeholder visibility.
• Coordinate technical strategy and milestones across engineering, game design, product, program management, UX, QA, and hardware teams.

Requirements

• 4+ years in software engineering management, technical direction, or lead programming, including direct management and development of engineers in the games industry.
• 6+ years of hands-on game development experience with deep C++ expertise and commercial or custom game engines.
• Strong knowledge of game performance, profiling, memory management, and multi-platform game architecture.
• Experience operating and maintaining features in a live-service game, including production monitoring, phased deployments, feature flags, and support.
• Ability to define technical strategy and team roadmaps independently while managing ambiguity and cross-team dependencies.
• Experience leading agile game engineering teams, running sprints, mitigating delivery risks, and establishing reliable release schedules.

Nice to have

• Experience integrating game clients with backend services, persistence layers, iOS, iPadOS, and Android ecosystems.
• Console game development experience, especially performance and stability optimization on constrained platforms.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools, live-game experimentation, A/B testing, analytics tools, or data pipelines.
• Experience building gameplay systems that use external hardware controllers or physical inputs.
